Novel Ti/RuO2IrO2 anode to reduce the dangerousness of antibiotic polluted urines by Fenton-based processes

The treatment of hospital wastewater is very complex, so treating polluted human urine a significant challenge. Here, we tested novel MMO-Ti/RuO2IrO2 electrode to reduce the ecotoxicity risk urines contaminated with antibiotics. This was used as anode in electro-Fenton (EF) and photoelectro-Fenton (PhEF) processes. results were compared those obtained using boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode, well by conventional Fenton oxidation. In order analyze performance processes, treatments evaluated on subject Penicilin G (PenG) removal, toxicity (using standardized method Vibrio Fisheri), antibiotic activity (Enterococcus faecalis target bacterium). reveal that PenG degrades following order: < EF PhEF. best are found for MMO-PhEF, which completely removed PenG, decreased 96% toxicity, activity. Besides, comparison, tests performed BDD, point out higher convenience new terms acceptable use energy because effluents generated can be further degraded an urban plant. Because that, MMO-RuO2-IrO2 emerges promising cost-effective material pre-treatment effluents.
